Q: Fetal Pole??? When should I see it???

I just got back from my first ultrasound. I am 6w 4d today. I found out that we are having twins! Baby A is measuring well and we saw the heartbeat. Baby B is not-so-well, we could see a sac, but not much else inside. There is definitely not a fetal pole. My question is, should I be seeing a fetal pole for BOTH at this point?!?! I do know that I am correct on how far I am along because I was monitored very closely while on fertility drugs. The doctor would like to see me again in a week to see if there's any progression, but she prepared me for the best, and the worst at the same time. Please let me know!

This happened to me. Sadly by 7 weeks 3 days the second sac was still empty while baby A was measuring a day or two head of 7 weeks 3 days with a great heartbeat. We had been checking sac b since week 5 when it was found at first in the ER it was thought to be a hemorrhage but was a twin. My doctor told me by 8 weeks that the sac should re-absorb. However i have no idea if it did or not, as i have not had a u/s since and on the doppler only one heartbeat was found yesterday so I am assuming it had re-absorbed. My healthcare is free military so its not always top notch. But.. also.. what my doctor had told me.. was that the second sac could be obscured and harder to see but as progression happened it should be seen by 8 weeks but in my case was not. It could def still be ok though. Try not to fret. They are going to have check again and will know more in a week. Good luck and hang in there. Hoping for a positive outcome! :)

Because you are having twins, try and treat them as 2 pregnancies and not to compare. Every egg develops at its own pace so the fact a fetal pole is visible in one and not the other doesn't necessarily mean anything bad for Baby B, it just may not have progressed as quickly. Good Luck.
