Q: What can I expect from a d & c?

Just found out yesterday I lost my baby at around 8 weeks and I would have been 11 weeks today. I'm an emotional wreck and I've started bleeding and cramping. It's hard enough to handle the emotional aspect of this but the physical aspect too. It's just a lot to handle. Thank god for xanax! I am scheduled for a d & c tomorrow morning and I'm scared to death of what to expect. Can anyone give some words of wisdom. Totally and utterly heart broken.

I know your probably already at the hospital but I wanted to let you know. I too had a d&c after finding out my 3rd pregnancy failed with the baby stopped growing at 9 weeks and I should have been 11 weeks. I was heartbroken. I went for the surgery and don't remember anything about what happened after getting the medicine til I woke up in recovery telling the nurse I needed to sit up. I was physical ok as long as I took it easy for the next few days. And was cleared to try again 3 weeks after the surgery and became pregnant with my daughter the next month.

I went in today for a 10 week ultrasound and found out that the baby measured 8w5d and they couldn't find the heartbeat. I'm also scheduled for a d&c tomorrow (actually today, I can't sleep--have to wake up to go in 30 minutes...). I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I hadn't had any pain and had minimal spotting, on and off the last month or so. I knew in my gut something was wrong. I was just hoping it was just in my head.

i'm so sorry hun, i totally agree with the ladies here - I went for one however, mine was different in that I never had any bleeding or cramping as it was a missed misscarriage so my body didn't realize and kept acting as though the baby was still alive :( I was devistated and it took me years to get over! I pray that it doesn't take that long with you but, something that really helped me was a book called Heaven is for real that really helped me come to peace with it - there is one part in the book that deals with a miscarriage and I found it's truth to be unbelieveably comforting - my little man is up in heaven and so is yours :) God bless you during this difficult time!

I was very, very crampy after my d&e. I bled a little heavy bright red at first and was spotting brown the next few days. I'm sorry for your loss. Beware this didn't happen for me thank God but some women's milk comes in a few days after the surgery depending on how far along you were. I was 7 weeks.

Same thing happened to me last year babe, thought I was 12 weeks, bub ended up passing at 10 weeks.

The d and c is of course nerve racking before hand as you tend to over think things, but after I come out from it I was painfree, a little dizzy from being put under but I got up and walked out 2 hours later. I had alot of bleeding afterwards but no pain! I just figured it HAD to be done, I still grieve today for my baby but I know it had to be done in order for us to move on and keep trying! You just need to somehow keep positive hun as hard as it is in this heartbreaking time! Your angel will be watching over you, even when you go in for the procedure!

If you are in too much pain go back and see the doctor as this could mean infection! But it should all run smoothly !

Im here if you want to chat xxxxx
