Q: At home Baby Dopplers?!?

I have this uncontrolable fear of going in to my 12 week appointment and realized that I have had a missed miscarriage. I have read too many heartbreaking stories to remain calm...

So I bought a Sonoline B doppler and it should get here Monday. I am super excited to try it out.

Have any of you ladies purchased a doppler? How early were you when you picked up the heartbeat? What brand did you use? And do you recommened it?

Thanks! I will be driving myself nuts until it gets here Friday!

My doctors were rubbish and kept saying that my baby was too small to "hear" a heartbeat, so I used to get frustrated and jealous when i would read how amazing it was when you were all hearing it so early.....
so at 25 weeks (YES 25 WEEKS) i FINALLY got to hear my babies heartbeat for the first time and even then they were reluctant to "try" ..... maybe my midwives are just weird.

I got one of those (I think it's the same type). It's not perfect, but I hear enough of what's going on in there to feel better (the bpm isn't always accurate). My DH doesn't like me using it too much, he still thinks I'm going to make her neurotic (I can catch the heartbeat for a short time and then she moves away). It was really hard to hear her earlier on, but I recently found out that I have an anterior placenta (which is probably one reason that it's been a little tougher to hear my LO). I think I got mine around 12-13 weeks and I had better luck when I used it when I had a full bladder. Now I can usually catch her on it without a problem (i'm 22 weeks). I'm glad I have it:-)

lol you don't know how many times I wanted to "not listen" haha but since we were getting ready for move from one state to another we didn't have the funds so it was mainly the funds that kept me from doing it. ;) I have heard great things about the sonoline b!

Exactly! I can't feel baby yet. I just need a little reassurance... and yea, my hubby said no too- I just didn't listen lol.

I don't see any harm in getting one just don't stress too much if you can't find it some days. Pretty much everyone in my sept due date club had one..and even though I really wanted one.. I some how kept faith and will power to not. Now I can feel him moving so thats reassurance enough for me now but I know how reassuring it would be during the times you can't feel them yet. :)

My babies heart beat was found fairly easy even with a tilted uterus at 11 weeks and 3 days. But I get what that poster says. My hubby would not LET me get one. I wanted to sooooo badly! but he knows me too well and said "You will be checking that thing every 5 minutes and if you can't find it or if the heart rate is too high or too low or something your going to just freak and stress yourself out" and well.. he is right so. I decided to just keep the faith even through a lot of scares I had early on in this pregnancy. BUT.. I do know a lot of ladies also that did get that same doppler and if I had been allowed to get one I would have gotten that one. Just don't panic if you can't find it some days and also.. keep the probe thingy on it for at least 10 seconds or else it will give you an inaccurate reading *usually too low* but these lil guys like to move so easier said than done some days. My active lil boy was hard to keep on at 14 weeks!

I am nearly 11 weeks pregnant- I don't think that is too early to hear a heartbeat through doppler. In fact, I know several woman who have heard baby's heartbeat through doppler as early as 8 weeks! I have not read any solid facts that it is dangerous to the baby or mother. Most of what I read says that there is no evidence either way as to whether it is dangerous.

However, I do agree with you that if I cannot find baby's heartbeat it might make me panic more. That is just a downside to it. If I cannot find it then I will try to see my Dr. and have him locate it for me. And yes, I do realize that even if there is a heartbeat that something could be wrong. But if I thought like that I'd never have peace of mind and would be in a cosntant state of stress....

its still very early days to hear a heartbeat. I was at the maternity ward the other day and they had a poster on the wall saying women shouldn't use these machines and only trained nurses and doctors should. Hearing a heartbeat doesn't always mean everythings ok, and if you can't find it (because you baby is sooo tiny at the moment) surely that will make you panic even more????
