Q: Is it ok to have a babyshower with your second pregnancy?

I know most people do have baby showers. Things is my son is only 13 months old. He will only be 18 months when i'm due. Since i just had a babyshower a year ago is it ok to have another? I still have a lot of the big things but that i will use for the new baby, but feel the new baby is special to and needs his/her own day and own new gifts. Some say i'm rude to have another one. Whats your opinion?

The purpose of a shower is to get stuff that you need for that baby. if you already have most of what you need that register for what you don't have and have a meet the baby party. let everyone know you are registered and I am sure they will buy you gifts. having another shower so close to your last seems slightly greedy and a desperate call for attention. It's up to you, but I think a meet the baby is the way to go.

I personally won't have a second shower, especially if the babies are close in age. But if that's what you want, then I'm sure your family would support you having another shower!

I am going to have a meet the baby party! I had a baby shower thrown for my son when I was pregnant with him 4 years ago about 3 weeks before I was due. I felt HUGE and uncomfortable so I thought if my family wanted to get together this time, after the baby is born is definetly the answer!! There are a lot of my family members that are going to want to see the baby when its born and since s/he is due in the summer it will be nice to have a gathering to celebrate my new ones life! I know that some family will want to get a gift, but not because we expect one, because they are excited and happy to welcome the baby and they want the baby to have something from them to show they were there and the baby is important! I think the same goes for a baby shower, its a welcoming of a new life into the world regardless of gifts! Enjoy being spoiled and having your new ones life celebrated if your comfortable with this! If not maybe consider an alternate meet the baby party :) Either way CONGRATS!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm Canadian but live in New Zealand and they don't do things like us Canadians do and ppl think baby showers are weird. I know if I were in Canada, my family wud be having a second baby shower for me even though it's another girl. But I don't think I will be having one here again. Throwing your own baby shower is weird, but kf someone wants to throw you one, that's great :)

I don't think its a matter of you requesting or expecting things.....I've found that people tend to WANT to give you gifts for your baby. Maybe those are just the folks I know. LOL ...that said I'm not having a shower for my second, but that's because I just dont feel like going through the hassle.

Some of these people are crazy. Baby showers are special times for friends and family to bless you and your bundle of joy. I'll be having a second shower when the time come. Tacky??? That's beyond silly. Each baby should have one and good luck.

I'm never crazy about the idea of showers for second babies. The only real exception (in my opinion) is if there is a huge gap between children (like my DH's aunt had one child then almost 15 years later with a new husband had a 2nd child....that made sense) or extinuating circumstances...for example...One of my cousins had 2 children fairly close in age, but between the first and second child they lost their entire home and possessions in Hurricane Katrina, so that second shower for that new baby made sense to me too. Other than that, I find a second shower pretty tacky. For your first baby it's almost expected, but to "request" gifts again in such a short time span is....well you get my point. I'm sure the close friends and relatives will still be happy to buy gifts for the new baby, but a shower will make them feel obligated. Just my opinion.

My first child was 4 years ago. I will not be having another shower, because, even though I have nothing baby related left from when I had my first, my feelings on baby showers have changed a lot. I think baby showers, for even first babies are tacky now. I regret having one, and I think the idea of a baby shower seems greedy. America is the only place that does baby showers, and all other people from other countries think they are bizarre. Who gets pregnant, then makes a list of things they expect their friends and family to buy them? So weird. Meet and Greet parties are great after the baby is born, especially if no one feels like they *need* to buy/support your child with gifts, cribs, and diapers and bottles. I know, im weird, but thats how i feel about showers this time around. My baby, my responsibility.

I am having a second one. My daughter will be 16 months when this one is born. The only reason Im having another one is because this baby is a boy and our finances were cut 2 weeks ago. We are taking what anyone is willing to give, used or not.
