In the UK the midwifes and doctors don't use a doppler until you are 16 weeks pregnant.

You get an ultrasound between 10 and 14 weeks then one at 20 weeks.

Maybe this is just Scotland but my midwife said it was too early at my 12 week appointment, I think to avoid any panic if they can't find the heartbeat.

They also struggled to get listening to the heartbeat for a long time at the 16 week appointment because my baby moves away from any prodding and squeezing (too much room to hide!! lol)

If it happens at your next appointment and you haven't had a U/S yet I would ask for one, but at the end of the day if you are concerned speak to your midwife and they might be able to organise an ultrasound or try again sooner!

I hope everything goes well for you!!!

At 15 weeks the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat using a hand doppler but an ultrasound could see it beating away. Your baby is sooo tiny at 10 weeks it often gets lost. It was only at about 28 weeks my doc was able to get a clear sound with ease.

Don't worry too much about it. I could hear the heartbeat on my doppler just after 8 weeks, then a few days later I went into panic mode cause I couldn't hear anything. Last week I could hear it again, next night not. So I'm not worrying about that anymore. Once the baby is bigger it will be a lot easier.

We couldn't find ours at 9w2d, baby was too little still. I wouldn't worry, my doctor said after 12 weeks is when they usually pick it up on the Doppler.

usually your doctor should give you an u/s to give you peace of mind if the heartbeat is not found but at 10 weeks its def. not uncommon to not find it so don't fret! but def if that happens again i would ask for a u/s. :)

My doctor said it was too early for the doppler at 10 weeks and gave me an ultrasound instead. My baby girl seems to hate dopplers, even now she still tries to "dodge" the doppler (even though she's getting too big to do so) LOL

Is your doctor having you come back in for a follow up or an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay? You should definitely ask about it

My dr had difficulty finding the heartbeat with the doppler at my 10 week appointment...she did an ultrasound since I had a history of 1 miscarriage, and found the baby instantly; baby girl was just hiding behind the placenta. I wouldn't worry too much about it, some babys just are hiding or don't like the sound of the soundwaves from the doppler. I'd ask for an ultrasound if you are concnerned, but know that it's semi-normal! Good luck!
