Q: Reasons for C-Section..?

When i got pregnant i only weighed 98 pounds. I am 17 weeks and 3 days and i weigh 103.5 pounds.
Is it possible, since i am so small, i may need a C-Section. This is also my first baby.
I am not scared for the answer. But since it is my first i was hoping to go through childbirth.

Your weight has nothing to do with you ability to give birth naturally. This is just a misconception. My grandma was tiny and her labours lasted only a few hours with no complications. My mother who is bigger framed then my grandma was had trouble with all three labours.

I am 5'4'' and prepregnancy was 115 lbs.. and now i am only 120 at 26 weeks (due to really bad m/s during the first trimester) but.. I am very petite and small boned. My husband is 6'2'' and a big guy. My lil man is measuring really long but so far ..skinny. My midwife told me we are fine as long as he stays semi skinny. If he starts widening out we may have an issue but she is monitoring that situation closely and told me not to worry so much because my body and baby won't do more than I can handle. You will be ok. Your doctor will let you know if they are concerned. :)

The human body is amazing. Especially a women's body. Your hips will spread through out pregnancy causing a lot of aches and pains but doing a job to prepare you for birth. If you were at risk for a c section most the time its for emergency reasons like for example if you have placenta previa where the placenta covers the birth canal opening you will have a scheduled c section. Sometimes too during labor if the baby is too large for a women's pelvis it can result in a c section but most the time the reason for this is the mother gets too tired to push any longer, causing distress to the baby. There can be issues for example lets say your 100 lbs and 5'2 or something and the father is like 280 lbs and 6'3" ... then they will want to most likely monitor his/her growth or.. if you have GD and are at risk having a big baby. I know that I was and have been nervous about this pregnancy myself..

your weight doesnt determine your ability to deliver. as long as your pelvis is big enough it will work (unless there are other complications). my mother was 110 pounds with her first baby and she delivered fine. your doctor likely did a pelvic exam during your first prenatal visit, one of the reasons is to make sure your pelvis is large enough for child birth.
there are alot of teen pregnancies happen, even girls as young as 13 have delivered normally. i think you will be fine
