Q: Is the name Roee weird? Pronouced Row-e

I know a girl and her sister is called Roee she is such a lovely young lady just made me really like the name aswell as it's not common and i like the sound of it BUT i don't want to have a name that will cause my child to be bullied or to have trouble pronoucing/spelling. What do you think?

In my opinion, unusual names are one thing, and names with difficult spellings/ pronunciations are completely different; I'm all for uncommon or unusual names, but I really dislike alternative and "kreeatif" spellings. Remember that if you DO choose a "hard" name to spell/pronounce your child will be stuck explaining it/ its spelling/ its pronunciation for the rest of her (his?) life.

In either case it is completely your decision, but in my opinion "Roee" sounds nice but it isn't a name that is easy to spell or pronounce and so could be problematic. "Roey" is a little easier, but still not completely without issues.

Full disclosure: I have an unusually spelled name and never liked having to constantly correct spelling/ pronunciation. I would have been very happy with an uncommon name, but one that's an unusual spelling is a real pain.

One of my friends works in childcare and some of the names she has in her class are so weird. Like River and Airly. I think weird names will almost be normal in the future and common names will be strange. I do like normal names though. That's ony in Australia though :)

If you're dead set on the name, maybe pick a more traditional middle name? That way she could always go by her middle name if she wanted when she gets older. Personally I am not a fan of unusual names, but it's your baby I think you should do what you want.

That's a super unusual name. While I agree that it's pretty, I really caution you about going too far outside the box. It can really hinder a child lifelong to have an unusual name. There have been studies that HR type folks have an unintentional bias against bizarre names (likely from ebarassment about mispronouncing names) in the hiring process. Given 2 equally qualified candidates, the majority of them will lean towards the easily pronounced traditional name. And that says nothing of the years of schools, peers, etc mispronouncing names.

That's a beautiful name, however the spelling could possibly set your child up for a lifetime of constantly getting her name mispronounced, lol. Rowe is a good alternative.
