BH can start at different times for everyone - and for others they may never feel them and just go into full on labour when the time is right! I felt them VERY early. I recall being about 18 weeks and questioned the midwife at my 20w apt and she said they were indeed BH, a bit surprised how early none the less but confirmed for me. A BH contraction starts from the top of the uterus which sounds like your "belt" feeling. Sometimes it can feel like it's pulling your uterus down out of your lungs (which is great). It definitely sounds like them and they're perfectly normal whether you have had them in previous pregnancies or not.

I have been having them for weeks now, and they are sometimes painful, but mostly just annoying. My entire stomach will be rock hard, everywhere I touch it. And, my baby does not move during a contraction. If you can touch a spot anywhere on your belly that is still a little mushy when you get that sensation, then it is probably just the baby pushing outward on your stomach (per my Doctor). My little girl can push really hard sometimes, and is a similar sensation, but I can tell the difference. I had to be monitored at the hospital a few weeks ago, and that helped me learn the difference. BH are also like a wave, it builds with intensity, lasts 30-60 seconds, sometimes a little longer, then starts to subside. That is what it is like for me. I hope that is a little helpful. Best of luck to you!

It's not too early-you can get them as early as 20 weeks. It's more common to get them later. I hate it when doctors dismiss you! That's what mine feel like, though I don't get them every day. Try changing positions and make sure you keep your fluid intake up!
