Q: Retroverted/tilted uterus - ultrasound drama...Anybody?

I had yet another trans vaginal u/s today at 7w+1d. The doc saw tiny flicker but it was so weak to be characterized as heartbeat. The baby measures about 7 days behind. Nonetheless she put the D&C on hold ...which is great!

I read online and many women say is difficult to detect the heartbeat and measure the baby with Retroverted uterus. Some of them even said they couldn't see heartbeat till week 11.

Does anybody here has some experience with Retroverted uterus followed by ultrasound drama?

Thanks ladies xxx

I have been on the same rollercoaster for the last week. I was told I have a retroverted uterus as well, which might be my problem, or my dates maybe off due to a miscarriage right before this pregnancy. Its extremely stressful, especially when you have no signs of miscarriage(I have had two previous ones) Don't give up until you know without a doubt. A week or two can make a big difference, especially with a tilted uterus. My new doc says sometimes you cant even see much until about week 11(with a tilted uterus). Let me know how it works out.

Yes...I JUST experienced this, when I was supposed to be 7 weeks, and got my first my ultrasound, the sonographer couldn't really see the baby that well, then immediately started talking miscarriage talk, UNTIL she use the vaginal tool. Then she was able to get a better look. She found a heartbeat and measured it at 160 bpm but she said the baby measured at 5w5....which I thought was WAY OFF. So I am scheduled to go back in another week to see the baby's growth and progress.

So please don't get discouraged, and DON'T let them convince you to get a D&C until they are absolutely, positively SURE that the baby isn't alive- get a second opinion even.

Maybe be that's why it took the doc soooo long to see what's going on. I hoping is because of the uterus and not some other problems

Hope everything turn out good. Also with that type of uterus it's hard to get the right measurements and to see what's going on in there.

I am so happy to hear they saw a flicker it is probably your tilted uterus what makes it hard to see by us hb I think you did a great thing by waiting and getting a second us , so many women have gone through the same thing and a lot of them turned out to be viable so hang in there and I am so sorry u have to go through this, they were also serval days behind just as I thought keep strong I am praying for u and you little bean , plus you have no symptoms of miscarriage and your hcg is still going up it doesn't make sense if you pregnancy wasn't viable your hcg would go down so I think you just might have a healthy little bean in there there is a flicker witch is wonderful news and movement I think the doc should give you bean a chance and let her grow I am praying for u and your bean good luck all the way and I hope to see the upcoming us.

OMG we're both in the same boat! I haven't seen a heartbeat either (just some flicker doc couldn't tell what it is). I don't have miscarriage symptoms, beta is going up but my doc (the negative Nancy) thinks the pregnancy is not viable ugh! Anyway, fingers crossed. Hope you see the hb soon. Keep in touch :) xxx

I still haven't seen a heartbeat, so iam being cautiously optimistic. But my doc seems quite sure it will be fine. Fingers crossed. :) I haven't bleed or cramped, and I still feel pregnant. Like I said, my doc wants to wait til next week until im 11 weeks.(dec 6) Hcg is still good.

Nevermind, just re-read your post. I'm hoping you get to see some more at your next u/s. Fingers crossed.

When the heart first starts going it's not that fast I'm guessing since your baby is a little behind the heart just started, it's good that the doctor saw it. Did they schedule another ultrasound for a week or two ahead? With a uterus like that it's very hard to see and get good pics of baby. You should stop stressing and worrying yourself so much, it's extremely bad for a pregnancy and especially on your little one.
