Q: Extreme chest pain in pregnancy- 3rd trimester??

I woke up yesterday 10th of January from my sleep having extreme crushing sensations in my chest it also radiated down my left arm which worried me that i was having a heart attack. I felt silly. I've had panic attacks before and i know what the mildest and the worst feel like, but i've never felt anything of this intensity. I felt nauseous and like i couldn't catch my breath and just generally like i was going to die. It lasted for 15 minutes and I sat in my chair feeling like I ought to call 999 but didn't want to bother anyone and felt i'd be so embarrassed if it turned out to be a panic attack and i'd just wasted ambulance/doctors time. So i sat suffering with massive palpitations from my chest. Again i've not experienced my body react so violently as in a panic attack before and panic attacks have always been emotionally driven for me and i worked myself into them. This particularly morning I'd got out of bed from laying down in this complete mess.

Update- I have been given tablets for anemia and am to be tested for possible diabetes. They also warned to keep an eye out as i have protein in my urine and slightly swollen ankles. Hoping it's nothing more. I have yet to have hospital tests for the diabetes aspect. My recent test was 6.5 and i hadn't eaten at the time.

Update...thank you for your kind thoughts.

I spent nearly 12 hours in hospital having scans, blood tests and xrays yesterday. The ECG showed my heart at rest is 109 as the minimum heart rate I had.

I had tests for blood clots on my lungs and heart damage which came back fine. My blood tests also showed good kidney function.

So i'm left non the wiser as to what it was on Friday. It could be anxiety or gastric related, but neither of these things make any sense to me as I was getting out of bed when this happened and wasn't in any way stressed and indigestion type symptoms have been felt in a completely different place.

Any other suggestions?

I hope you got a call back about it! Whatever it is I would strongly pushed to get it checked out! I had a blood clot in my lungs at 18 weeks with my daughter and my pains would come every few days until they progressed to sound like yours. I simply got told if I had a 3rd episode to just go straight to the hospital. We are about 3x more likely in pregnancy to get clots and some people like myself are already genetically predisposed to it. ANY chest pain should be seen to regardless. I hope it goes okay though x

Well she called and said it could be gastric related as this can mimic a heart attack in pregnancy, on the other hand she said i should have gone in to a & e yesterday. Now that i feel ok, she said to book an appointment with the doctor for an egc and to talk through my symptoms as soon as possible. Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully it's just gastric. I can't bear the thought of having any kind of heart issues, really makes me feel rather hopeless if that is what the problem is :(

I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back. Hopefully she will be able to put my mind at ease. I'm been fine today cleaning etc and just getting on with my day. I was terrified of going to sleep incase i woke up like this again, but thankfully all was well.

The only things i did differently the day before was drank more water than usual and did a little more cleaning than usual. Other than that i have a pretty relaxed time at home and can't understand why this would happen.

I'm only in my late 20's so i just thought heart attack, was out of the question as i'm pretty healthy i think.

DEFINITELY see ur doctor, dont worry about wasting anyone's time...this is a potential cardiac issue and its YOURS (and baby's) life at stake. Have a read up on Angina Pectoris...very similar symptoms to an MI (myocardial infarction) but is temporary, whereas a heart attack will permanently damage part of the cardiac muscle. This NEEDS to be taken seriously...its not normal, please dont sweep it under the rug becuz ur too polite to bother ppl who are paid to help u.
Best of luck to u! Keep us updated. =))

I really think you should call your Dr.. and see what they have to say about it. That sounds very scary and its better safe and feeling silly then dead right.

continued- i started worrying about what i'd left undone in my life and the things i needed to say to people. I was in and out of contemplating calling 999, but praying it would pass. It did pass about 15 minutes later, but i still felt short for air the rest of the day right up until 7pm at night. I felt daft feeling it was a heart attack, but at the same time it didn't resemble a panic attack to me in feeling at all.

I'm wondering if there are any pregnancy symptoms that cause severe chest pain that I should consider ?
