I never did the kick counts. I tried with my first, but I would just get frustrated & worried if I felt she wasn't moving enough. I never even tried with my second bc who has time to lay perfectly still & count kicks for an hour or two when they have a 2 yr old that no longer naps? :) I had days where they were very active & days where they barely moved. If I ever got overly concerned, I would drink some juice or eat something sweet. That would typically get them moving again. Try not & stress. I always noticed my girls quit moving on days I was stressed, so that could be affecting your little one as well.

I haven't started doing the kick counts and I'm almost 27 weeks. I would ask your doctor next time you go and see what they say about it. I've heard different things from "it's not a big deal, every kid is different, as long as you can feel them moving" to "you should feel x number of kicks per hour."

I didn't do it with my first as it thought it was just silly... I would of been in the hospital all pregnancy, as my baby was not very active lol. As long as I felt him move at his regular times I was happy.

If you ask me, the kick counting is completely BOGUS. My OB said if the baby is moving, you're good! Whenever I tried to count, I never had the amount of movement you were supposed to have based on the guidelines. I truly will never understand this guideline as all it does is stress mother's out unnecessarily. You know the typical movements of your baby and will know if things STOP moving. BUT even then, things are fine. I had days where I felt almost nothing and OB also said that is normal.

Could you splurge for an at-home doppler? I think they are about $60ish. It might help you reduce some stress if you're unable to find a pattern of movement with your LO.
I found kick counting to be stressful with my first because I could never find time to lay down and focus when he was moving. I would get distracted and lose count, etc. This time my little man moves pretty much all day, so I haven't even considered doing kick counts.
