Q: Soft cervix vs effacement

I had my OB appointment today and she said my cervix is soft & mushy, starting to efface, but not dilated (I'm having a c section so it doesn't really matter, but im curious) What's the difference between effaced and soft? I always thought they were the same. Also, does this mean I could go into labor soon? My c section is scheduled for the 14th, but I'm kind of hoping I go into labor before then.

If it's effacing it means it's getting thinner, the softness is just a description of physical texture.
