Q: When did you first hear the heartbeat?

We have our second appointment tomorrow at 10w6d. We had a healthy heartbeat by ultrasound at 6w6d and I was wondering if we are going to be able to hear it tomorrow. When were you able to first hear your baby's heartbeat? I am nervous and paranoid and I am trying to calm myself down.

I didnt have an at-home doppler with my first but OB got a HB at 10wks. With my second, my doppler didn't arrive til I was 8w5d and I found it that evening.

our babies heart beats were heard at almost 14 wks, but only that late because I had an ultrasound at 10 wks, so there was no need to check at that time

The nurse found the heartbeat almost instantly! What a wonderful sound to hear and a wonderful sigh of relief!

Saw the heartbeat via ultrasound at 9 weeks then heard it at my 12 week apt via Doppler, even though it was quite hard for the doctor to find it.

We saw the hb at 6 and 7 weeks but didn't hear it via u/s until our 12 week NT scan and on the doppler at 13 weeks.

We saw the HB at 7w 1d via vaginal u/s. My doc wouldn't attempt to listen to the HB with the doppler until at least 15 weeks, but I told them I already have a doppler at home and listen to it daily so they went ahead and tried at 14w 3d and got the HB. I know they could have heard it sooner. I got my doppler at 12w 1d and heard it immediately.

It depends on your doctor/midwife. I know mine wouldn't even TRY to listen for a heartbeat with a doppler before 12 weeks. She said that before then they couldn't consistently get a reading and that it was unnecessarily stressful for parents if they couldn't find one.

So keep in mind if they do try to with a doppler at your appointment you may not hear the heartbeat. That doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong - it's just that it can be hard for them to pick up a heartbeat before 12 weeks.

Good luck!

We saw it at 6 weeks and went back at 8. We were shocked to hear the most amazing sound of a good heartbeat. We didnt think you could hear it until 10. I was told it also depends on if it is transvaginal (hear it sooner) or abdominal. Good luck, dont be suprised about a few tears of joy as it is so amazing to hear that sound!
