Rubbing My Belly
By babykuhn » Posted Sep. 6, 2012 9:01am - 333 views - 6 comments

So even before I got pregnant, I've always been uncomfortable with the thought of someone rubbing my stomach. During my friend Faith's pregnancy, she never had anyone touch her belly except her family. I could only hope for the same for me. We had many discussions and laughs while she was pregnant how uncomfortable this made ME feel. We even joked that when I ever got pregnant, that I would need a shirt similar to the one in this picture.

Once I found out I was pregnant, this was one of my biggest fears. I'm a pretty private person and in NO WAY wanted anyone rubbing my belly when I was pregnant except for Phil.

I specifically remember my first belly rub in my 10th week and I can imagine the look on my face was PRICELESS! We were at Suite 306 in Ocala shooting darts. Johnny, the owner of the bar came up beside me and without asking started rubbing my stomach. I didn't know how to react, I kind of went numb. The moment seemed to last an hour, but I'm sure it wasn't longer then 10 seconds in reality. I was creeped not only by my first belly rub, but it was from a GUY! I now know how men feel when people come up and rub their bald heads. I managed to regain composure, continue the night and keep an eye on where Johnny might be lurking with his belly rubbing fingers. Cautious to make sure it wasn't going to happen again!

Later that night Kerrie and Amanda showed up. They were all over rubbing my belly as if they were buttering me up like a Thanksgiving turkey. It was a little less uncomfortable coming from females, but I still wasn't used to it. My belly was still squishy, our child is the size of a prune, what could people possibly want to feel, I still won't ever understand. I've never had the desire to rub ANY pregnant woman's belly, even when my best friends have asked me to feel the baby kick, I've declined or touched it against my will.

As the weeks have progressed it appears my belly is a magnet for people's hands. I have come to peace with this past fear of mine. I now view people rubbing my belly as comforting. It's a nice reminder of the miracle I'm carrying. Others enjoy and light up when they get the chance to rub my stomach. I'm like the almighty Buddha and it's good luck to rub my belly. I've embraced what I've always been afraid of.

Even after all the stress of a belly rub. I still think the best tummy rub in the world is the one that comes from Phil. It's comforting when I'm stressed or upset and makes me feel so much more relaxed. The love that I feel in his touch has always been indescribable and the best feeling in the world. AJ can't feel it directly just yet, but he's in for a special treat when Daddy finally gets to hold him in about 200 days!

Oh, I'm SOOOO used to it these days now. It doesn't bother me anymore. Just was super awkward at the beginning. So rub away folks, just rub away!

That's because everyone is happy for us and wants to be apart of our little family! :-) I love you baby! (def not baby mamma)!!!!!

@sunshinebear711: That's too funny. Yes I've often noticed people just rub to rub, they really have NO idea where the baby is at. :-)

@Marmaduke: Yes you can, since you count as family. Although rubbing it doesn't do much good right now, can't really feel anything other then squishy fat. Soon enough you'll feel some baby behind there.

My husband rubs my tummy (but he has been doing it before I was pregnant, which was weird in itself) and the only other person who does it is this one woman at work. But the funny thing is... where the bump is and where she is rubbing... there is no baby. Molly is SUPER low (like, just behind and below my belly button) but I keep getting rubbed above it... which is super weird because that is where my bump is... but no baby!
