Timeable contractions but, no dilation or effacement....
By Bostonmama08 » Posted Nov. 22, 2013 11:07pm - 333 views - 6 comments

Just returned from Labor and Delivery for contractions that came every 3-5 minutes here at home at dinner time. I was scared out of my mind going in to get checked out because the contractions were coming at a timeable rate.

Turns out my cervix hasn't changed in 5 weeks, is long and closed tight, negative FFN test, baby's heart rate does not indicate stress......yet I am contracting with huge hills on the fetal monitor every 3 minutes. The doctor released me without giving me any meds because all of my tests came back normal and honestly, they look pretty darn good. I'm so damn confused here....

So, contractions on the nose every 3 minutes that look like giant hills on a fetal monitor printout means nothing??

I just don't get it....am I happy that the baby is fine and my cervix is closed tight? Hell yes. But, how can I sit here getting a solid contraction every 3 minutes and receive no meds to calm the muscle?? Baffles me.

Their discharge info was for me to rest (which I have been doing since 14 weeks when I can) and drink loads of water....meanwhile I pee clear because I DO drink so much. Nothing new.

I'm just still worried....and frankly baffled.....

I pray for at least 3 more solid weeks.....just have to hang in there long enough....I will feel much better at 28 weeks as far as lung development. Baby weighs almost 2 pounds now....but I'd prefer a bit more.

I take a 400mg magnesium supplement at night before i go to bed. It helps me sleep better and it also helps with the ridiculous foot cramps ive been getting lately. I also take a 99mg potassium supplement in the morning, also for the muscle cramps and because it helps keep the headaches away. My dr says its all fine to take. I would just eat a banana for the potassium, but i really hate them! lol

KP....I thought about the magnesium....we can safely take that? There is a supplement at the whole foods store (you know how organic I have become!) and thought about getting it.....i just might now. How much do you take??

Very weird... Maybe your uterus is just irritated by the sch? At least you're not showing signs of actual labor, that would be scary! I'm at 31 weeks now, and i would be worried if i went into labor now. I can understand how worried you must be. I take a separate magnesium supplement every day, which is what they use in the hospital to slow preterm labor. Maybe that will help calm things down? I hope you feel better soon :-)

I can understand why you'd be baffled! That is so confusing. Very good news that the FFN came back negative though, right?! Isn't that supposed to check for your risk for pre-term labor 2 weeks out? 2 weeks from now is almost at your 28 week goal for feeling at ease. Almost there!
