So thankful!

It's been an absolutely crazy couple of days, I'm thankful for so much! Max and I got to the hospital prior to my Dad's surgery yesterday at 9am, Max was in his best behavior all day, it's like he knew I needed him to be calm and quiet so I could be there for my mom, I was so beyond proud of him! We were there until he got out of recovery and into his room around 3:30, so it was a long day in the hospital for both of us, but Dad's surgery went smoothly and he was in good spirits when I left.

We headed out again this afternoon, arriving at 11 (with Daddy helping out this time, thank goodness!). Had a surprisingly tasty Thanksgiving feast in the hospital cafeteria - Max really liked their turkey! - and lots of time just hanging out in my Dad's too-tiny room and walking laps around the ward to keep Dad moving. He was insistent in being discharged today, but Mom and I pressed him to stay one more night, and as evening rolled around he started really struggling with the pain and anxiety of not being able to swallow, so he was grateful to still have access to the hospital tonight . Charlie took Max home around 4:30 and I stuck around with Mom for a few more hours, trying to convince my stoic, over-cautious father that it's ok for him to take something stronger than Tylenol. Finally got him to take a dose of Vicodin so he could get some sleep and headed home.

About 15 minutes after getting home, while having a very animated conversation with Mom, I started having REALLY bad cramps. I stuck it out for about 30 minutes hoping it was just a passing thing, but when they weren't getting better I opted to call l&d, just to check. The nurse was so friendly and helpful, and after talking to her for a bit I realized that I've had nothing but a laege chai tea and a small apple juice to drink all day. She thought I was probably dehydrated and stressed from the emotional roller coaster of the last couple days, suggested a few large glasses of water and a warm bath. Did the trick, not feeing 100% but the cramps no longer feel like the start of contractions... Goodness knows we didn't need to spend any more time at the hospital today!

Overall, it's been a very eventful thanksgiving! I'm so thankful that my Dad is doing well and will hopefully soon be on the road to recovery, for my wonderful husband and amazing son for being so great and supportive through this stressful time, for my Mom who is and always will be my best friend. Most of all I am so, so thankful that this little turkey is staying put, she needs plenty more time to cook!

Hoping everyone stateside had a very happy holiday! I wanted to share a photo of two of the most important guys in my life, I am so beyond grateful for them today and every single day!
