I know this topic is brought up a LOT! But, what is in your diaper bag and hospital bag for the birth trip?

Wonderful suggestion, khol! What a good idea. I hate hard, scratchy TP! Lol

Everything eag923 said is spot on. The hospital will have the diapers and wipes and all the goodies you will need as well. I second the granny panties for after a c-section as well. Only thing I would add is to bring a roll or two of soft toilet paper. Hospital toilet paper is rough. Your hubby will be happy with this as well!

For you, the hospital will provide the pads (the 1st couple of days you will need something more absorbent than just an overnight maxi pad - you're going to need the padding they provide or you can buy some Depends) also, if you're having a C section, buy yourself some brief underwear. You're going to need some undies that come up high & don't irritate your incision. You're going to swell in that area too (you'll have a temporary "c section shelf" that will go away after a cpl of months, that's just from the muscles being cut), so buy some Granny panties! :) Bring nursing bras if you plan to bf, pjs, toiletries, chap stick, your pillow, cell phone charger, nursing pads, slippers or ask the hospital for socks with grip on the bottom. Like I said, bring the bare necessities to be comfy. Those days in the hospital are exhausting and a whirlwind. American hospitals are really great at providing almost everything, so take advantage of that!

I made the mistake of taking everything but the kitchen sink when I had my 1st, so here is some advice: take as little as possible. Just what you need, bc the more you take with you, the more you have to load back up and take home & then put back up. You will not need that much for the baby. The hospital will provide all diapers, wipes, and formula if you are using formula (they have every brand imaginable and will ask you what brand you're using if you are ff). They have nipple cream, Vaseline, nose suctions, thermometers, hair brushes, etc. You name it, they have it and provide it. For the most part, all you need to bring for baby is clothes: I recommend just sleepers, onesies, and the coming home outfit. I also brought swaddles, pacifiers, and socks for baby #2 - but she was born in early March so it was still chilly. Also, here is veterans advice on hand mittens - use baby socks instead! They work SO much better and actually stay on. Mine always flung the mittens off.

Sounds like very good, thorough lists. I've made a list for my bag and her diaper bag so I don't forget anything. This is helpful!

My bag:
1 short button in front gown
2 pairs of socks with tread bottoms
6 pairs of Depends ( the ones that fit like underwear)
8 overnight maxi pads
8 disposable breastfed
Travel size:
Tooth brush
Toothpaste
Mouthwash
Body wash
Lotion
Hair ties
Make up bag
1 disposal razor
Facial wipes
1 pair of shower shoes
Hand sanitizer wipes
Tic tags
Lip balm
1 pair of sweats and nursing shirt
3 nursing bras
1 pillow from home
1 going home outfit
Change for vending machine for DH and Sister (Labor Partner)
Cell phone
Cell phone charger
I do believe that is everything. It may be more than enough but after being at the hospital earlier this week I found what extra things I needed to be comfortable for mw. Some hospitals have restrictions so check with your hospital as well.
