Membrane sweep planned for tomorrow at doctor visit.

So I have a doctor appt tomorrow at 2:15 and the doctor said if he could get a finger in my cervix he would preform a membrane sweep. I've never had one so I'm not sure what to expect. I've read good and bad things online about it. I'm going to take all my hospital stuff and dh is going with me since there is a slight chance my water could break during it and I'm sure he will send me on over to the hospital if that happens(which I'm hoping it doesn't).

Also this morning I started having intense stabbing pain that lasted almost 3 hours in my lower stomach kinda where my csection scar is and in my lower back. I was also having BH but the pain was there almost all the time and worse when baby would move. I drank a cup of bedtime tea and pain went away within 10 minutes. My only guess is baby was moving down some putting pressure on and stretching my scar. I'm glad it went away and wasn't actual labor starting. Was so not fun being doubled over in pain and kids poking me asking for breakfast and fighting lol. Thankfully my wonderful dh got home from work and got our oldest ready and off to school for me.

Thanks for all the info ladies! I guess if my body is ready for labor it will work and if not then I'll meet my little guy a little later:). He didn't say why he was doing it at 38w5d. It could be because of the shape of my pelvis makes it hard for baby to fit through and if he's to big I may not get my VBAC. My first was only 5lbs 12ozs and almost couldn't squeeze through. They had to use the vacuum and I almost ended up with an emergency csection. I was going to have him do it at 39w2d since we have a so e personal reasons wanting him born around the 26th. Just will have to see how it all works out:)

I had a sweep done with my daughter, it wasnt painful or anything, it felt kinda weird but no real discomfort. I lost my plug over the course of a cpl days and didn't have spotting until the plug was out. I had a few contractions but nothing really came of them. I was induced and gave birth a week later at 41+1.
Hopefully it works for u so u can avoid the section.
Good luck! =))

I had it done 3 times with my first. Once a week starting after 37 weeks. It worked the 3rd time. Contractions started on the drive home but didn't get strong enough to go in until the following night. My sweeps were not painful at all but i did have spotting afterward. My son was 8lbs 1oz when he arrived I can only imagine what he would have weighed if I went over my due date. I had a section with him because his head wouldn't fit out so I'm in the same boat as you and my doctor plans on doing sweeps because they won't induce after a section. Good luck!

I had 3 sweeps done with my first. They didn't work still didn't make her come. She went over 41weeks just before an induction was planned. It is uncomfortable and spotting. They twist and it hurts just a little. Best of luck.
How come there doing that when your only 38+4 not due yet. Hope things are well for you. Best of luck.

I had a membrane sweep with my last pregnancy. It was uncomfortable and I spotted a little after. The main reason why they did mine was because during her growth scan they deemed that she had stopped growing so they started the process. I didn't have any contractions after the sweep. The began pitocin around 7pm because I hadn't showed any signs of starting labor on my own. I'm sure you'll be just fine. Good luck mama :)

Thank you and good luck with your appt tomorrow as well. My doctor hasn't checked me yet but I've been checking and I can get a fingertip in so he should be able to. My doctor won't induce because of my scar so if he doesn't come eventually it looks like I'll have a repeat csection which is the last thing I want.

I have my appointment tomorrow as well. I am thinking I will ask my doctor about this since I am already dilated and effaced. My mother suggested getting it done since It worked for her. I am not expecting to be put in full blown out induction I am just hoping to get things moving so I can meet my lil one by his edd. Good luck tomorrow
