went to hear the heartbeat for the first time last night! spoiler: it was awesome.

at first she couldn't find it and was going on about how the machine they brought her never works and how she'll have to tell them to scrap it. and at first i'm like 'oh silly medical care workers! they should know better than to give her the wonky doppler!'. but then the paranoia set in and i started wondering whether she was just playing me and trying to reassure me despite her not being able to find it! there were some dark thoughts there for a minute or two, let me tell ya.

buttttt she went and got another model and she said she could pick it up almost right away. only that machine reads out heart rates without necessarily sounding it out... so that was anticlimactic. eventually she did find it and my partner caught the rhythm before i did. *just* as i caught it (it was so quiet, she had the volume down), she moved the doppler and turned it off! so yeah, a little less dramatic than i was expecting. but she heard it and she said it was between 140 and 160 (way to be precise, doc) and it sounded good.

so of course i immediately went home and pulled out my doppler (i had bought it the week before, but my partner asked to hold off using it until the doc picked it up, i guess in case i couldn't find it and freaked out). it took me about 5 minutes of searching, but when i hit it, MAN was it cool! much louder than the one the doc picked up and just... awesome. i couldn't stop smiling! such a difference between my own heartbeat and the dude's. it was amazing!

i called my parents (who live across the country) and had them listen. i think they were pretty impressed. technology these days. hah.

so now begins the week of telling everyone! i'm telling work tomorrow, and i need to find a cute/interesting way to email my extended family (they're all across country as well). then there's the task of figuring out how to tell grandma we're not getting married cause i'm gonna pop one out first.. eek!

SO HAPPY! HURRAH!

oh... and i get to redo 13weeks 6 days because my doc can't calculate due dates. forgot it was a leap year. actually, no. she was going off what the ultrasound said, and i was going off a day later (for entirely arbitrary reasons, but mostly because i thought the ultrasound was too early), and then when they go by when i know i ovulated (cause i KNOW), that's like 3 days later than that even. so she split the difference and said september 5th. and then realized it was a leap year and changed it to the 6th. not that it matters at all, but i'm 14 weeks tomorrow! commeee onnn lemon!
