Spider Veins
Pregnancy Symptoms & Discomforts
The hormonal changes and increased blood volume during pregnancy are the likely cause of spider veins, also known as spider nevi. These cause the red or purple capillaries just below the surface of your skin to branch out and become more visible during pregnancy. They tend to appear mostly on the face, neck, upper chest or arms, but can also develop in your legs or torso as well.
Increasing your vitamin C intake and not crossing your legs can help minimize spider veins. They may also be hereditary, so you may be more prone to develop them during your pregnancy if your mother did.
Spider veins do not hurt and fortunately usually fade shortly after delivery. Some spider veins on the legs or torso may not go away entirely their own, but can be removed with the help of a dermatologist after you have given birth.
