About Me

My husband and I married on October 25, 2008. Being only 19 at the time my husband and I decided to spend our marriage together and enjoy it. We finally started TTC a little after my 21st birthday. After 2 years of frustration and depression and fear we got our first positive pregnancy test a few days before Thanksgiving. We were overjoyed and with it being our first child announce and showed to the world. As the week progressed everything just seemed to become more and more real. As we scheduled our anatomy scan on March 1st at 18 weeks, we began to make our guesses at gender and who our baby resembled more. With a pocket full of Sour Patch Kids and some Sprite we went in for our scan. A boy! We both got the son we wanted, but soon the ultra sound tech became quiet as she looked at our baby, and then said with some sadness in her voice that our son's brain wasn't looking normal. After what seemed like hours and another ultrasound tech and even the doctor visiting us, they decided for us to return in a few hours to speak with a genetics, our son had some abnorabilities they would like to speak to us about. Coming back to the doctor, my husband and I expected the worst. We were told our son had Holoprosencephaly aka HPE where the brain did not split into 2 halves like a normal brain, and it was very possible that he had what they called Trisomy 13 or 18. They asked if we wanted my animo fluid tested. We agreed. We were suggested to abort or even to induce labor that our son will never talk, walk, eat normal and there was a very high possibility he wouldn't survive labor. After a very hard decision we decided to continue our pregnancy and give our son a fighting chance. So far 2 out of 3 testing have come back for chromosome doubles. So no Trisomy, only the HPE as we start our 22nd week we can't wait to meet our son Connor.
