About Me

I am 36 years old and recently had IVF to attempt to select for a girl. I already have a beautiful 10 year old son. Since my son has various disabilities (developmental delay, autism, epilepsy, adhd, endochrine issues etc), we are trying for a girl in the hope that it would decrease our chances of having another child with developmental disabilities. Statistically 80-90% of kids with autism are boys, and since my husband is also on the spectrum, we are fairly certain that at least the autism is genetic in our family. During the IVF cycle, I ended up with less eggs/embryos than we had expected, so we decided to forgo the genetic testing and do a 3 day transfer of all 3 embryos. I was very scared of ending up without any embryos at day 5, and I am still comfortable with the decision we made. My husbands sperm had been microsorted - a process where they are able to separate the sperm by gender with about 80% accuracy. So while we don't know if we are having a girl - our chances are higher that we are.
If by chance we end up with a baby (boy or girl) with disabilities, then that baby will have parents who are experts at taking care of him or her. Either way, my 10 year old will have a sibling, and after I am gone, they will have each other to love - disabled or not <3

I am a stay at home mom, and feel very defined by being a "special needs mom", since it is such an all encompassing role. I am curious and excited to (hopefully) learn what it is like to raise a neuro-typical child without care teams, hospitals and medications.

Outside of being a mom, I am fairly creative, and enjoy all kinds of crafts (knitting, crochet, sewing, soap making etc), and I am also a bit of a gamer on the computer. I also enjoy reading, science and history... yeah reading this about myself makes me realize I might be a bit boring, but I am OK with that :)

My Birth Plan

Epidural all the way! I had a very quick labour with my son (5 hours from first contraction till he was born). I had an epidural about 2-3 hours into it, and it was amazing. I had no problems progressing with it, and I was able to push, even though I couldn't feel the pain (yay!!). I am hoping for an epidural this time too, and would definitely like to have a vaginal delivery again if at all possible. I imagine the recovery from a c-section would just be so much harder!
