Ivar's Birth Story

At 2:49pm I decided to start timing my contractions that had been irregular and were not stopping with being in bed. They were 15 minutes apart and changed to 10 minutes apart at 3:30 pm. I called L&D and they told me to monitor for another hour. I could already feel the contractions down my legs. I texted my cousin seeing if she was free. She texted me back at 4:30 saying she could take me to the miz and got to my place at about 5:15. Was in a room at 5:45 and cervix had dilated to 3, a cm since my last check up and was almost completely effaced. They talked about sending me home if I didn't change over the next hour. By 7 pm the contractions were so bad I had to curl around the arm of the bed and they came back to reassess me. I had dilated to 4 and membranes were bulging so nurse told them I was in labor. During the half hour of nurse deciding if I had time for an epi and if I should have an IV I went to 7-8 cm. Contractions were horrible at this point and 2 minutes apart. The resident was examining me to see if they should break my waters and they exploded during the exam. They were telling me I didn't have time for an epi and I got quite annoyed. Told them I don't care if it only works for 20 minutes I don't want to feel anything for those 20 minutes. So they grabbed the guy. Once I had the epi in they were able to get the monitors repositioned on my stomach and saw his heart rate had dropped drastically and I ended up with 10 nurses in the room, a dr, and the resident. They gave me an oxygen mask to try to bring up his heart rate but it only stabilized it at 60. Since I wasn't fully dilated and they wanted him out asap the dr stretched my cervix while I pushed to get his head through it, thankfully the epi had started working. He wasn't coming out fast enough so they tried the vacuum. That wasn't working so they had to grab the forceps. At 8:40 pm he was finally out. He only weighs 6 pounds 9 oz, 20 inches long and was born at 37 weeks 4 day
