Baby's First picture

I'm sure they'll be more to come, but today was the very first picture of Aldersonbaby. It's just a dot on a page but, for Bill and me, it is our whole world.
I guess I didn't realize I'd been holding my breath for 10 days, but when we saw that little flicker and this pregnancy was deemed viable, I started to laugh and cry and couldn't hold still to get a measurement of beats-per-minute. It's like this wave of new awareness washed over me saying, "This isn't some elaborate dream! The little critter is okay and this is really going to happen." Bill held my hand b/c I was so embarrassed. I kept apologizing and telling the technician to give me a second to get it together. I finally just had to hold my breath and she got it: 130 beats per minute.
We are a little over six weeks along and our baby is due on New Year's Eve.
I'm stunned. There is a life inside of me and I really have been given the blessing and honor to watch after one of God's precious creatures.
I'm just stunned. Oh, and the best part of all? There was only ONE heartbeat! ha! ha!

When I heard the heartbeat I cried and cried and cried, I cried after the u/s, at lunch with my husband, on my way home. I didn't end up going back to work because I was so emotional. I will never forget that sound. The ultrasounds only get better from here on out too! I'm glad you got to hear your little one! |
