First ultrasound

A huge weight has been lifted and so much of the stress has gone. I finally got to see and hear that beautiful sound of the heartbeat. I of course cried and am so thankful that everything is going ok. The doctor is also confident that I have nothing to worry about. My next ultrasound is in 3 weeks and I will be getting my prenatal screening done to check for down syndrome, spina bifida, and other defects. I do have a twin brother who is mentally handicapped as well as 3 half brothers, all mentally handicapped, so I am concerned about there possibly being an issue if I have a boy. The doctor gave me a number to call to set up a genetic counseling appointment, so that we can cover all bases. He thought there could be a small chance of Fragile X syndrome, but really nothing is certain right now and even so he thought it was still unlikely. All and all, this has been a great day and I'm feeling so good :D
