Positive AFP

Nurse called me this morning to tell me that my AFP resulted in positive for Spina Bifida, but not to freak out because this all could be cause from the non viable twin that's still hanging around. She bumped up my level II u/s to tomorrow morning and I'm a nervous wreck. I did tell my husband last week that i wouldn't be surprised if something came back amiss. Our doc at the NT scan even said that he can't use my blood work to calculate the results because they would come back abnormal (that is when we found out baby B didn't make it). Wouldn't it make sense that most of the blood work that i take during this whole pregnancy wouldn't be accurate? Nurse called back 30 mins later to ask me to come in for another blood draw so they can re-run the test. She said it was a positive, but it was a low positive, so that is why they're leaning more towards the twin causing the result. Reading other mom's stories online is really helping. LOTS of moms have gone through this, espically with vanishing twin syndrome. Although my situation isn't really VTS, since I miscarried way later in the pregnancy. Plus, just reading other ppl who have gotten positive AFP results and it turning out that the baby was just healthy was astronomical. heading in for blood work in about an hour, i'll ask for the actual numbers there. Glad i don't have to wait more than 1 day to see the LO and to check if everything is OK. I know i sorta of 'called it', but it's something that i really didn't want to be right on.

When I was pregnant I had a test and after the ultrasound they confirmed my son has spina bifida. We were completely devastated and didn't know what to expect for when he arrived. He is now 2 1/2 he has physio once every two weeks and he stands up on his own and is able to walk with a walker pretty soon he will need no help and you wouldn't be able to even tell he has it we are very lucky he stands and walks just like every other normal little boy:)
