considering self home care for the next few months

This last doctor appt pushed me over the edge. The doctors brush off my concerns all the time. On top of it there is always an hour wait with no reason. Baby was fine on the ultrasound so they don't want to book anymore. I became anemic quite fast with my daughter and they don't seem to care about that. I am treated like this is my first pregnancy and I kinda know what I'm talking about and what is normal for MY body. I was told he measures big now but will become average by 40 weeks. Well I'm sorry I knew my daughter was big, she was in MY stomach, dr said she would be 6 pounds and she was 9 pounds 3 oz. I am concerned about a bigger baby because she never measured ahead, she measured small on some tests. But I was told my concerns are not to be worried about. I know he is big. I have felt him move for a long time now and he has never felt small.
I am buying a fetal doppler and monitoring him myself. Going to get my gp to check my iron levels a couple more times and I might go back to the clinic in August. But at this point if I don't go back and just show up at the hospital in September I would be fine with it. I am sick of being treated like I'm an idiot and if you are not going to monitor more that I can at home then why should I be a patient and get you a paycheck? My baby is fine and growing good but my health obviously isn't that important. If I feel wrong or notice something isn't right of course I'll see a dr. But I haven't even had my cervix checked and other clinics have done that by now. All they do it weigh me and scan heartbeat, ask me if I have concerns and then tell me not to worry. Well screw that. If they want money they can treat patients better.

I've got to echo what everyone else has said. Please don't stop getting prenatal care. If you don't like your doctor, find a different one. I switched to a midwife at 20 weeks, so it can be done. My midwife said it's actually very common.
The appointments you described do sound quite standard. By the way, cervical checks can actually do more harm than good. I'm 35 weeks and still have had ZERO cervical exams. It's usually just not necessary and can introduce bacteria for no reason. AND you can have GD without ANY of the warning signs and with zero risk prior to having it.
I get that you're frustrated and annoyed. But keep in mind that the doctors are well-trained and likely have a reason for the care you've been given.

It sounds pretty standard to the appointments I had. Also, the doctor will check your blood pressure and your urine for protein. I wouldn't take care in my own hands, I would find a new doctor. Pre eclampsia and eclampsia can come on suddenly. It would be an awful thing if for some reason u got them and couldn't do anything about it because it was too late because you weren't getting routine checkups.

Also, ultrasounds can be off by a pound or more, they can only give an estimate of the size of the baby.

I've applied to some midwives but my chances of getting one now are very low. All the other hospitals are too far away from me, not that I like my hospital that much it's just easier to get to since I may be cabbing when I am labour. All the doctors I get told to go to are only easy to get to if you live in the area or drive. Seriously wish I lived somewhere else lol.

I agree with Dakota. If I were you, I would just say screw it and find a different doctor to see. Get some suggestions from friends and other people you know. Word of mouth is the best advertisement for these types of things. I hope you get some better care ASAP.

If I go back in August there will still be time for them to diagnosis anything that is wrong. I actually had complications with my daughter that doctors ignored and I view my taking control of my care with her as the only reason I still have her. I was having contractions since 24ish weeks with her and leaking fluid occasionally. The doctor didn't listen to me then and I am noticing the same care this time. This pregnancy is healthier but I still should not be getting treated like I am an idiot by my doctor. I am planning on seeing someone again before I give birth, I just think I can either find someone better to deliver my son or at least only have to suffer with these doctors 2 more times.

Thats the same stuff my doctor has been doing, its pretty standard and those things are required to be done by a trained professional, otherwise our first appt wouldnt be til after 30wks. A doppler is great but unless u have been trained on how to detect irregular heartbeats or valve issues by listening for them, its not something u wanna take in ur own hands. BP and measurements are important as well, everything he does may seem small and insignificant to u but there is a reason for it and a history that is built by it. I think u need to treat this like a different pregnancy becuz ur basing this off of what happened with ur daughter, and it can go completely different. I really hope u think this through, if anything goes wrong u will blame urself for the rest of ur life. Sorry ur having such a rough day.

All the dr is going to be doing for me now is checking my blood pressure, measuring my stomach, and checking with their doppler. That's practically what I was told today. The only added thing is get GD test but I have no risk for it. I honestly do not see what the difference would be of me doing it or them. I had a couple of internal exams with my daughter by now and she is only 2.

I really dont think u should take care in to ur own hands. If u dont like the way they treat u then either say something or find a different doctor, but monitoring the pregnancy on ur own is really not a good idea...doppler or not. Idk where in Canada u r, but Im 29wks tomorrow and still havent had a single finger or instrument shoved up my vag since before I got pregnant, it didnt happen with my first OB years ago either.

Idk, ur choice. Best of luck with whatever u decide.
