Proof Positive

Last year in October my husband and I decided to start having a baby. November was the first available month we could start trying. We said we weren't going to make it formal. Just not prevent it and see what happened. After a while it was clear that we both wanted to actually try. I started measuring my BMT, testing my ovulation, and analyzing every other bodily function. My husband is a research scientist, so he travels a lot. In the last year, we have only had about 7 viable opportunities. There was a false positive in there once and a whole bunch of negatives.

In October we decided that since it had been a year that both of us should get ourselves checked out. Turned out we were both fine and perfectly healthy. In December my doctor gave me the option of trying Clomid. He started me on the lower dose and the results were unremarkable. I did get a pretty nasty cold that lasted a couple weeks, plus the stress of the holidays probably didn't help. January was the second month and we doubled the Clomid dosage.

I have been being pretty good about what I put in my body, but I did go out for drinks a few times. I had become so accustomed to not getting pregnant that I became more relaxed about it the farther along it was. I kept thinking that if crackheads and alcoholics can have children then no amount of pizza or the occasional glass of wine was going to stop me.

I have been really thirsty the last couple of days. I also have been noticing that I have become a bit constipated. My appetite has also seemed to increase. I did some reading and these things seemed to indicate early pregnancy signs. I wanted to wait until the day I expected my period to arrive, but today is the day before and I just could not wait any longer. I took a pregnancy test and am pregnant! All our hard work paid off.

I am going to be adhering to all the pregnancy rules; no crackhead baby for me thank you! Maybe a pizza baby. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

My first visit with my doctor is scheduled for March 3rd. Seems a bit far out to me, but I can see wanting to wait until the pregnancy is for sure going to take.

I can't wait to tell my friends and family! For now, this is a secret my husband and I will have to keep.

Congrats! It's such a long, hard road sometimes, but makes it even more special when you land the positive!
