Nightmares

Everyone knows that during pregnancy, women tend to have more vivid dreams. And I read recently that in the second trimester, they can amp up a bit. I was not expecting nightmares, night after night, for over week now.
And not just my usual nightmares, (like my son being kidnapped) these nightmares are bloody, gruesome, and horrific; they would make great horror films. I am actually a fan of horror films, but I haven't watched any in over a year, so I can't credit them for inducing these dreams.
One was so bad last night that I was actually nervous going to the bathroom by myself at 3 am, which I laughed at, knowing I was perfectly fine and safe.
The only element that seems repetitive is that there is always an animal involved, usually a pet of mine, and the ending is usually a gruesome death, of theirs or mine. I wont add details here.
I am only writing this down because I need to get it out! I wake up shaken every night, and while I know they are just dreams, and usually impossible ones, I am frustrated that they keep coming, every night, and I have no idea why.
Just another weird pregnancy thing, I guess. I hope they go away soon.

I feel your pain. It can get to the point where you're a little afraid of going to sleep because you don't know what your psyche has in store for you. Everything from murder, to my husband leaving me, to my baby dying have interrupted what should have been a peaceful night's sleep. I've woken up in tears, in panic, and shaken. I'm in my last week of the second tri and while they have lessened, they aren't gone. Fx for us both they end soon.
