So, this is my fifth pregnancy. Aside from typical symptoms, GD and pupps, they have all been very uneventful for the most part. This time has not been so easy going, so far. I went in on the 8th which was 6w0d based on LMP, ovulation pain and dating. I was scheduled for an exam w/ the nurse practitioner and an early u/s. When i got there they took me in straight away for the u/s. The tech was skittish acting from the moment we arrived so i was uncomfortable from the start. She said that she would look and after explain what she was seeing. While she was doing the scan, i started to get the feeling she wasn't happy with what she was seeing. There was clearly a sac and she measured this and when she finished she told me to dress and go into the exam room.

By the time the Dr. came in i had already mouthed to my husband that they were bothered by something. He mouthed back not to worry. The Dr. came into the room and told us that the sac was measuring 5 w0d and i started to shake my head. He said it was likely that i ovulated later than i suspected. I told him that a week later ovulation was impossible because a week after my suspected ovulation i had already gotten a positive pregnancy test. He started to suggest that we should stay positive and that there was a possibility that the pregnancy isn't viable but that it was too soon to assume that. He said he was going to run a quantitative hcg and then we'd go from there.

After i left his office i went to the hospital lab for the first draw. We were feeling quite shaken and confused. My symptoms had been increasing steadily over the past few days and i still felt very pregnant.

The next day the OB's office called me and told me that my numbers had surprised them. They were 17500 and the nurse said that they were beyond what they had hoped to see but that we would hold off judgement until the second draw came back. On the 11th i went back in and had another draw. Rather than wait for the Dr. to call me the following day i signed a release and got my results within the hour. 24900. After 72 hours. My heart sank a bit. My husband, still not quite grasping it all, asked me to explain. I told him that they should double ideally and that slow growth can signal a problem. He said that he was just happy to see the rise and that he didn't have a feeling in his gut that there was any problem.

Yesterday i spent a lot of time reading about hcg levels. Some of the things that i saw suggested that a slowing after the levels reach 6000 isn't that uncommon and that dehydration can sometimes cause numbers to slow. I have been dealing with somewhat pervasive dehydration since finding out i was pregnant. So i started upping my water and waiting for a call from the Dr.

The call came through while i was typing this. She said that my numbers definitely should have doubled (how anything dealing with human growth and development can be spoken of in definitives is beyond me), and that they want to schedule me for a follow up scan on Dec. 21st. And that is where we are today.
