Q: 8 week ultrasound, no heartbeat found, tilted uterus.

Hi there! I went in for what my Dr. said is my 9 week U/S to try and find a heartbeat. My baby measured a little over 8 weeks and they couldn't find the heartbeat in a transvaginal U/S. They only spent 5 minutes looking, didnt take into account that I have a retroverted (tilted backwards) uterus and didnt bother with running labs. They instantly said I was going to loose my poptart and that I should do a D&C. I dont believe them and am going back for another U/S next tuesday. My ultimate question, has this happened to anyone else and find a heartbeat several weeks later?

Im sorry to hear this. I had a tilted uterus and they couldn't see the baby or heartbeat with the transvaginal. They had to do the abdomen one and they saw the baby and heartbeat. I will keep you in my prayers and hope all goes well with your next ultrasound.

I'll definitely keep you in my prayers. Although I know the odds aren't good, I would still insist on a second u/s (that lasts more than 5 minutes) and possibly more bloodwork before giving up. Miracles happen!

I'm very sorry to hear this, I also know that if they cant find a heart trans vag that the baby has more than likely passed. I have an extremely retroverted uterus and went in for my 8 week ultrasound and they were able to find a heart beat, thankfully, this time. I had a similar experience to you last summer except at my 8 week ultrasound there was no baby and no heartbeat, i went all over the web and found a misdiagnosed miscarriage website which mostly dealt with retroverted uteruses which gave me hope, but it ended in a bad miscarriage at 9 weeks where I ended up losing alot of blood. I also last march went to labor and delivery at about 38 weeks with my first pregnancy only to find that our baby girl had passed. Its a hard thing but I'll definitely be sending good wishes your way. I definitely think that if you want a second u/s to make sure I'd definitely do that.

I would definitely go for the second ultrasound, hopefully with a different tech. I hope that your little bean has a beating heart when you go back.

*hugs*

Hun I am so sorry but in my experience if they can find the baby but not a heartbeat with an interal scan then the baby has passed. I know It's not what you want to hear but its the turth. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't give up or seek a second opinion if you believe the doctor wasn't thorough. I hope it was just a incompetent tech.
