Q: Causes of large baby

I had a scan when I was 23 weeks and 3 days. Baby already weighed 815g!!
I'm well within my weight gain limits and there is no signs of gestational diabetes. I'm 181cm and my husband 196cm.
Any thoughts why he is so big? Can it be genes?
My MIL who is a nurse, told me that I might go into early labour because he is so big! Even though I can't find any info on this, it has scared me. Anybody have any experience with this? Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.

I was told that my first child was going to be a premmie and weigh around 4lb at birth based off of ultrasound...She was born 7.2lb at 39wks..and so very healthy! My second was guessed to be about 9lbs!!!!! yet again from ultrasound...and she came out 6.9lb at 40wks and 4days! Dont worry miss...it really just is a guessing game! Good Luck

I agree he's not even 2 pounds yet... normal birth weights are usually like 6-8 pounds (about 2700-3600 grams). Also, getting the weight through a scan is pretty much a guesstimate... Lots of stories of women who were told their baby was much bigger/smaller than they actually were. If you are eating well and your weight gain is within your limits you are fine. Don't let your MIL scare you!

Hes not big at all. Converted to lbs hes only 1 lb 12 oz. hes still got a ways to go. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I will say that I did have a decently sized baby. she was 9 lbs 3 oz 21 in long. I went in a week and a half before I had her and she was registering 8 lbs 6 oz. My dr isnt so smart, but he is listening to me this time. Just watch what you eat, because baby will take whatever through the umbilical cord. good luck
