I know a woman who had an abscess in her mouth caused by a rotting tooth. She let it go, and the infection got to her brain. She then got treatment, but by that point she already had irreversible brain damage. She acts like a nut now, sometimes doesn't recognize people, and her husband divorced her. She is constantly getting in car wrecks and getting tickets because she has all but nearly lost her sense of judgement. It's kind of really important that you make this a priority. Good luck :)

Hello. I am a 4th yr dental student (will be a dentist May). I'm sorry you are in so much pain, tooth pain is unbearable. It is important that you see a medical professional for your toothache. Most likely, you have an infection in the tooth and surrounding jaw bone. Infection can affect your entire body. It is especially critical if you are running a temp or are experiencing swelling. The pain will not go away unless the tooth is treated. I cannot say what needs to be done without an exam, but teeth do not heal on their own or with cloves/compresses. Try to find a dental school or sliding scale dental clinic to go to. Many areas have emergency clinics. If you have no other choice, contact your Doctor. He/She may be able to Rx antibiotics but I warn against relying on them. As long as the tooth is not treated, the infection/pain can return and be more resistant to antibiotics in the future. Good luck.

Hot Compresses really do help!! I have had horrible teeth issues in my life and always used hot compresses at night to help deal with the pain until I could get to the dentist. Try it out!! They have helped on everything from a broken tooth to a horribly abcessed one!!

On another note, your teeth have a direct relation to your health and to your baby's health!! Try to find a dentist that will work with you because if it is at the pain stage that could mean infection is setting in and that can be very dangerous for you AND for your baby!!! I am sure someone will help you. If you live in a bigger city try a local dental college!! But get help for that soon!! Don't live with pain that is that close to your brain!!

I had a terrible toothache a couple of weeks ago. The doctor put me on penicillin, but until it kicked in, it was terrible. I tried cloves, but it didn't work. The only thing that I found that worked was taking a facecloth, and soaking it in hot tap water (not boiling water, just the hottest tap water you can stand), then put the wet facecloth in a ziploc bag, then apply it to the side of your face that it hurts. It worked wonders for me!! Good luck!

A home remedy I know if is rubbing cloves on the affected area... doesn't taste too great but it does numb it somewhat.
Try an antiseptic oral mouthspray..?

Good luck!

oh no! that is the WORST pain EVER! I feel for you. I needed a root canal for about 3 months and it was awful. Of course its so much harder being preggo because I could use pain meds to medicate. So I feel for you! :/ Gosh the only thing I know that you can take for pain is tylenol. :( can you maybe try orejel?? I know how expensive the dentist is but I do know a friend of mine is low income and cannot afford the dentist so they pulled the tooth for not very much money. Some have payment plans as well. Can you maybe call your doctor and ask? though i know what most will say... tylenol. Hang in there. Like I said.. I feel for you!
