Q: Signed off work!

Hey! I have had a horrendous couple of weeks at work and the stress has been horrid! I teach special needs pupils and their behaviours are extreme at the best of times!
Anyway my headteacher has been very unsupportive and have refused to give me any additional support in the classroom.
Last week I ended up having an emergency scan after being elbowed in the stomach by a pupil! Doc told me then that my blood pressure was on the higher side of normal and that I needed to to be watched. MY head teacher has been worse since I told her this information and the stress has doubled.
Last night I didnt sleep for worrying and tis morning my DH made me go to doc.
Ive been told I got high bp and have to have anoher check next week... if it hasnt reduced they will admit me! This is scary as they said they I'd be there till I was 24 weeks - im now nearly 11!
Argh! :(

I was working in a server sped classroom and I found it to be to much stress and risk also..I was lucky that my husband had the same concerns as me and we are in a place where I did not have to work I was like 10weeks at the time. To me there was noting that ment more to me then my baby. If you can swing it I would get out!

I also teach special education (high school), so I know how stressful it can be. I'm not sure what options are available to you, but you might want to look into extended leave. I've been very lucky that my students' behaviors haven't become worse since I've been pregnant (they are most amused by my pregnancy and are always asking about the baby). I'm not sure when you get out for summer, but I only have 3 weeks left (I'm due right when school resumes in August, so I'll be on maternity leave at the beginning of the school year). See what your doctor can do to help, especially if you don't have much time left until summer. You have to put your health and the baby first. I hope it gets better soon:-)

I would go above the head of your headteacher... talk to your school principal or an administrator that has more authority than the headteacher. This sounds like a form of on-the-job harrassment and a failure to ensure that your needs are being met. That's NOT okay. You need to put your health and the baby's health ahead of the job - maybe that will mean being put on "light duty" by your doc so that you have a medical note to receive special accommodations at work. I'd actually recommend that, as if your headteacher fails to accommodate you once you have a doctor's note, it's definitely discrimination and they can and should be formally disciplined. I would have a Dr write you off for a few days. The stress is certainly not good for you or the baby. After a few days, see how things go and if you have to go back and things are still the same I'd consider early maternity leave, or finding other employment. I am a child care provider and have been having issues with a parent or two, and it's gotten to the point that I've thought about switching jobs because the stress they're causing me is NOT worth mine/the babies health.
