Agree with jkim, if you are already overweight it is very normal to not gain as much (and sometimes any) weight - perhaps your midwife is not up to date on the latest studies in that area, they only came out a few years ago I think. I am overweight, I lost 11 pounds my first trimester and am just now at 24 weeks 6 pounds over my pre-preg weight. If you are overweight you may not really need to "gain" any weight, as long as your baby is appearing to grow normally. Your body is burning those extra calories from your stores, and as long as you are eating good foods for your vitamins/iron/calcium and taking your prenatals to fill in the gaps your baby should be getting all the nutrition that is needed. When you have your 20 week scan that is one of the things they will be looking at is if your baby is keeping up in size. Visiting the nutritionist can't hurt but don't let them worry you as long as the baby looks fine.

I am not sure what your BMI is but you could be expected to only gain 11-20 lbs, 2-3lbs per month in the second and third trimester, you might might need to go to www.freedieting.com under calculators they have a pregnancy calorie intake calculator, try that and don't be afraid of the nutritionist, I used one through my first pregnancy voluntarily, it was great, but maybe that was just the one I saw. As loans the baby is gaining properly you losing weight is not bad, being overweight the baby can be pulling the required calories from fat stores. If the fundal height is consistently increasing and ultrasounds show normal growth I am not sure why they are soo concerned. Good luck and try not to stress.
