I would definatly time for maybe an hr or so. I was 3 days over with my daughter and had this going on.

as far along as you are, i would try timing it for an hour or so....it could be a sign of labor

I assume you do t mean that guy feel a rhythmic tightening but a general all the time tightness. It could just be your skin and muscles reaching the max stretch point making things feel tight and strained. The baby could also be in a position where they are pushing outwards causing extreme strain on the uterus and surrounding muscles. You can try rubbing lotion into the skin its relaxing and helps with itching and tight skin. Drinking water and relaxing on your left side and poke and rub your belly to see if you can encourage baby to shift, other than that I don't know what to tell you, it never hurts to call your doctor or to mention it at your visit maybe it means something to them :) or they might at least have some tips for relief.
