Q: 20 week scan

Hi there. I have my 20 week scan soon and was wondering if a full bladder is needed for this? I know you need a full bladder for the 12 week scan but my letter does not emphasize this for the 20 week scan. any advice appreciated :)

I just had my A/s a week ago and when my appointment was scheduled they told me to come with a half full bladder that a full bladder wasn't necessary.

I was told it wasn't necessary for 20 weeks as the baby is big enough to see clearer without needing a full bladder to push the uterus. :)

A full bladder isn't required for your 20 week scan.
They sometimes will ask you to empty your bladder if it's too full so they can get a clearer picture.

I had a completely empty bladder at my 20 week scan and nothing was said. (I had just gone to the bathroom 5 minutes before).
I think they don't need you to have a full bladder because your uterus is sitting high enough in your stomach for them to see things clearly.

Unless it states that you require a full bladder, go on an empty bladder. They can always ask you to drink water when you get there.

I needed to have a full bladder for mine as well. You can either call and ask them beforehand or show up with a full bladder and ask when you get there. Good luck:-)

I didn't need one. In fact I gave a urine sample before my ultrasound. I guess it depends on the doctor.

they prefer you to show up with a full bladder. They will let you know when your there if you need to empty or not. This happened to me with all my scans.

I had to have a full bladder at my ultrasound, but it clearly stated in the letter that I needed to have a full bladder.
