That's normal to recheck it. You were still pretty early along, so a hcg of 54 is ok (just a low number). By rechecking it in 48 hours to make sure they're doubling. It's pretty routine, so I wouldn't concerned at this point. As long as you don't have cramping or bleeding it should be fine.

I had severe abdominal cramping that made me weak in the knees, shaky and want to lay down at 4 weeks 6 days. I too went to the ER but.. everything ended up being just fine and I agree that they probably want to do another blood draw for your HCG to see if its doubling but 54 is actually a really great number for so early on in your pregnancy. :)

I was rushed to hospital due to abdominal pains too, and they basically wanted to rule out any complications like miscarriage ectopic pregnancy where it grows in the fallopian tube. They took my blood and urine, did a smear test and a basic mot on me. I went in when i was 3w6d and my HCG was 103 so they asked me to come back in 2 days later to see if the hormone levels had doubled and if they'd only gone up slightly it was most likely an ectopic and if not at all then miscarriage.. The hormone levels are the only was they can tell if the baby is still there and growing in the right place because hcg has to be over 1000 before they can see the baby on a U/S.
Luckily my level went to 203 and they booked an early U/S to see the baby's heart beat which they couldnt find but told me it may be too early and ive got another u/s in 6 days :)
Good luck, its a very scary time i know but remember you are in very safe hands and they're job is to protect you and your baby :)

They probably want to recheck the levels because it's still very early. As long as they have gone up, it's fine. I didn't have any severe abdominal cramping, but I've seen other ladies that have. As long as you aren't bleeding too, it's okay for now. Hang in there:-)
