Q: Feel uncomfortable at work?

I work part-time at a bakery-cafe. Normally i prepare food and serve customers, and occasionally have the dining room shift (which includes walking 6+ miles a shift, and lifting between 20-40+ pounds). My boss knows I did not like the dinging room shift because it was just a bit too much for me, and frankly I am not so good at it. But since my manager has learned I am pregnant, I am constantly on the dining room shift. I have no choice but to carry the heavy buss bins on my stomach (as there is not good way to hold them, and if i don't place in on my stomach I can't carry them.) And the long amounts of walking are rough on my tender feet, which in turn makes my back hurt. I talked to my OB about work when I first got pregnant, and she said for the time being, while I wasn't far along it was okay, but she would probably put me on restrictions later in my pregnancy. I have not brought it up to her again, but i really am beginning to feel uncomfortable doing those things at work.

Well he can't fire you for being pregnant, but get a note from your doctor first and show it to him. If there are plenty of other jobs you can do there, then he has no reason to fire you. And if you have the doctors note and he does fire you, then he has a lawsuit on his hands.

I would get a note from your doctor to give to your boss. Explain to her about what is going on and see what she says. Maybe she will give you some lifting restriction. I know finding a job is hard these days, but maybe you can also see what else is out there. Good luck hun.

I Have not brought anything up to my manager lately, for fear I could/would be fired, although I have brought it up to him several times in the past that I am not comfortable in the dining room and would prefer to stay in the back. But i really am feeling like maybe my manager (who has never gotten along well with me-at all) is doing this intentionally. I feel hurt and like I'm being taken advantage of. Even if I'm not on restrictions I am still not comfortable with what I'm doing at work, but feel like I have no choice but to do it, or lose my job.
