Q: Decaf coffee?

I love the smell and the taste of coffee, it's comforting and soothing and I've been craving it bad, so I've had a small cup of decaf once or twice.

But I've heard conflicting things about the safety of decaf coffee and the process of how it's decaffeinated being questionable. I'm wondering what your guys' opinion of decaf is?

It allegedly has around 5mg of caffeine per cup so I'm not really concerned about the caffeine levels so much as other possible issues?

Nothing bad about decaf coffee. I drink about a cup or so a day. There may be trace amounts of caffeine in it, but not enough for you to go over your allowed 200 mg a day. Unless you have a 50 cups of coffee... in which case you may have some other issues going on there.

no one ever told me coffee was bad when I had my first 3 children, I had never even heard of it, I drank about 8 to 10 regular mugs a day :/ all my babies where fine, with my 4th I drank about 1 reg a day an 1 decaff I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks ( I know this had nothing to do with coffee obviously) but just in the grand scheme of things its never been a issue with me, with this pregnancy I only drank 1 cup day till I was about 8 weeks I am now 13 weeks I have about 2 to 3 reg cups a day and I don't worry about it, theres so much don't do this and don't do that these days, remember years ago when it was ok to drink ale, ok to smoke ok to put the baby on its belly etc, don't worry too much about how much you drink I am sure the amount you have now is simply fine.

I think for me, of all the things you shouldn't do whilst pregnant, caffeine is pretty low on my concern tbh. Like you I find the smell so warming, one or two cups are fine i think :)

Yeah.. I agree with those saying to drink a little bit of coffee. I drink 1-2 6-8 oz cups of coffee on most days and it's completely fine. I think you can have up to 200mg of caffeine a day.

Also helps to fend off headaches - for me anyway :)

I have researched this topic and the from what I've read, you are right, the chemical process to make it decaf probably makes it no better if not worse. I asked my physician about drinking coffee and since I'm in Canada I told her I drink ONE small to medium coffee a day. She said that is totally fine! You are allowed caffeine. Just stay within the limit (which you can find on the internet). Stressing is more likely to cause you harm anyways. So enjoy your morning coffee or whenever you prefer to have it :)
