Q: Detergent for Baby Clothes

I'm confused on whether to get different baby detergent or just use Tide(unscented) which we generally use for our own clothes. What do you plan to wash your baby cloths with?

I want to add this...

A lot of people buy baby detergent cause they are worried about baby's sensitive skin.
So they wash baby's clothes SERPEATELY and in the special super over priced detergent.
BUT they wash all their clothes in their normal stuff.
Now, you are gonna be hugging, carrying, holding your little one close to you, often times they will just have a diaper on and will be touching your clothes. Or will just be exposed to your clothes even with their clothes on, your shirts will touch their faces n hands and most likely every where else anyways.
So since baby is being exposed to your detergent anyways, what is the point in washing babys stuff seperately in special detergent?

Id say wait until you know if they are gonna break out with the normal detergents before getting any special baby ones.
And if they DO break out - then you will need to wash all YOUR clothes in it too, since baby will be touching you too!!!

I bought some Dreft to use at first but only because it smells amazing and I love how the little clothes smell like a baby...but after awhile I am sure I will probably just use the same free and clear detergent we use for our clothes :)

I've also been using ALL Free & Clear for all of my baby clothes and other baby laundry.

To add, with baby clothes (and adult clothes!), the recommended dosage is absurd. Half or a full lid of detergent? Your kidding! 1-3 tbsp of any detergent is enough. If you are worried about chemicals on babies clothes, no matter what the detergent, use the minimal amount of detergent it takes to wash, and clean the clothes... seriously, how dirty do babies get, ya know? Start with 1tsbp and work up until you think you have reached the necessary amount. Saves money, and leaves less residue on the clothes.

I was that the concern about using regular detergent was that the baby would react if they had sensitive skin. Neither my husband nor I have sensitive skin so we used our regular non scented detergent and my son did not react. We watched him really carefully when we first dressed him though and were prepared to go buy special baby detergent if needed. Fortunately it wasn't needed. I plan on doing the same thing with this baby unless they are born premature, then I will probably jump to the baby detergent for the first little while.

I read its best to use a liquid form (non bio) and non scented. I just used any non bio ones which I use anyway and all mine where fine, I think its most likely trial and era.

I plan on using Baby All...Dreft is just too expensive for me to justify using it. However, I can't use many detergents because of my allergy to them (Tide is the one that gets me the worst). I know baby's skin is sensitive, so you might look into using something "free & clear"...
