Q: Pregnancy Carpal Tunnel???

I have been dealing with pregnancy carpal tunnel since I got pregnant, but it's getting worse. I just want some sleep. It's so bad at night, that I'm up every hour trying to find a comfortable position. I toss and turn all night because my hands fall asleep and cause so much pain. Anyone else going thru this and can give some advise. I can't even function at work because I don't sleep a wink at night. I guess I'll be prepared when the baby comes not getting any sleep. :)

I've had Carpel Tunnel since i was 20 weeks pregnant. Its horrid and painful. I went to my drs and all he told me to do was wear splints on my wrists at night. You need splints that have a metal strip in them to immobilise your wrists. You will notice a difference after about a week of wearing them at night time. Dont think that because the symptoms have died down things are better, if you leave them off one night you will notice the pain return the next day. The splints have worked wonders for me and they also double up as an anti snoring device against my other half! Hope this helps.

Childcare is probably harder on the wrists than any desk job!! I have my ECE as well and do childcare. I once broke a rib and found it was painful to lift...which is a must with 5 kids under age 5! I did all diaper changes on the floor (might be hard while pregnant with big belly). To get the kids into their cribs I had them first climb up on a stepstool then did the rest of the lifting. Maybe some changes like that to try and use your arms less will help keep your poor arms calm at night.

Hopefully someone on here who has pregnancy carpel tunnel and has more advice!!

I don't have a desk job, I own my own child care center. I tried some wrist bands last night and it did help a little. I was able to sleep a little longer. I did not have carpel tunnel before pregnancy. Thanks for your advice. :)

Do you have a desk job? Have you had an ergonomic assessment to ensure your work space is correct for you? My mom had this (no pregnancy related) and when she had the assessment they had to change a ton of things to get everything properly positioned...it helped wonders.

Completely unrelated to carpel tunnel...how are you sleeping with your arms? Years ago I had issues with my arms falling asleep at night and when I saw a doctor it turned out to be because I liked to sleep with my arms up over my head...and doing this puts pressure on a main vein through the shoulder into arm cutting blood flow. The solution...to wear rollerblading wrist guards to bed, when I put my arms up over head I would klonk myself on the head with the wrist guard and move my arms back down. It was silly...but effective in training me to keep my arms down!!!!
