Q: Help... not sure what to do....

I am just over 5 weeks gestationally, I have had a terrible cold for a few days and feel crappy! As hard as we tried for this baby I am terrified to take anything (because I have had several miscarriages) but the doctor said I can take Tylenol and Robitussin. I have been doing really well and feel like I am getting better without meds, however my throat is killing me tonight and with each cough I want to cry! Any suggestions? It is just that raw feeling in my throat.

Honey will sooth it, but gargling salt water kills bacteria.

Gargle with salt water frequently to kill the bacteria and get better faster. Also hot water with LEMON and PASTEURIZED honey will really soothe your throat, not to mention the Vitamin C in lemon and the immune system boosting properties of honey will help you get better faster. :) Just make sure the honey is pasteurized. My doctor told me unpasteurized honey can be dangerous. Good luck and hope you feel better. :)

Hi!! I would stick to the salt water and honey remedies. Lemon can dry out your throat and irritate it more. Also try the following, it worked wonders for me at 8 weeks. Boil 4 onins (finely chopped) in 1.5 litres of water for 45 min. Throw through a sieve and drink a cup every 2 to 3 hours. Also take an onion and cut it in half. Cover in brown sugar and let it stand for a while. It will form a suryp. Take for soar throat. Good luck!!! xxx

Thank you so much... I won't even take Tylenol.... I'm sure after the first trimester I will change but for now to scared! Haha! Glad to know I am not the only one. Maybe I will try some hot tea or something... I'm not big on hot liquids, but I can't stand this much more! Thanks again for the advice!!!!

try drinking green tea or hot fluids, I take some hot fluid, it helps for me :). I was the same during my first trimester, worried about anything that would harm the baby.
