Q: Is 10 weeks to early to inform your employer?

Hi Ladies,

I really want to give my boss as much notice as possible as I go on annual leave overseas for a month during tha start of my 12 week id like to let her know before i leave... do you think it would be somewhat safe and ok to inform her at 10 weeks? How far along were you when you informed your employer?

I haven't told my bosses yet because I am afraid they will see it as loseing me as a good working in so many months (I have watched them do it to others) and they will treat me different. Many of my co-workers know tho. However if you are close to your boss anytime should be fine!

I told my boss before I was even 8 weeks along. I'm a teacher and needed to get out of a field trip that we were going on. It was strenuous hiking outdoors and there was no way I could have done it. My boss was overjoyed to learn that I was pregnant, and offered to let me rest during the day, take naps in the breakroom, etc.

I would say that if you're planning on taking an overseas trip, it's definitely appropriate to tell your boss sooner rather than later. Good luck!

I agree that it depends how good you get on with your employer. I told my manager at 6 weeks as she had been so supportive when I had mc 3 months ago.

I think it all depends on how comfortable you are and whether or not you feel ready to inform your employer. Some women wait until the first trimester while others tell employers right away, it also depends on what kind of job you are currently employed in some employers need to be told right away so the enployee can be exempt from heavy lifting etc. I told my employer when I was only 8 weeks. We have a good relationship and my job doea require some things I can't take part in while pregnant (chemicals, lifting etc.) I think if you feel safe telling her your boss then do so. :)
