The theory behind this is that if the heart rate is high you are having a girl and if it is lower you are having a boy. However, the speed of the heart rate is an inaccurate way of telling what the gender is. This is just an old wives tale. The baby's heart rate changes all the time and ranges from low to high whether you're carrying a boy or a girl. Unfortunately you can guess all you want but no method is accurate except for the ultrasound which is I believe 99% accurate. None of the old wives tales of telling the gender are going to be accurate..but of course it's still fun to guess :) I've definitely tried them all but have had very mixed results...so just will have to wait until my 20 week ultrasound!! :D

The heart rate changes depending on how much your baby is moving at the time. With the theroy of it being higher is a girl isnt true for me. My baby's heart rate just yesterday was 131 and she is all girl so it doesnt work for me. I am in childbirth class right now and that question was asked about it and they said it is just a fun thing to guess about.I am going to try what Breezy said with the string and needle and see if it works for me and I also tried the chinese predicion calendar and it was wrong for me as well.

The theory is that a higher heart rate says a girl, but my babies heart rate was 160 and he's definitely all boy so I'd say it really isn't an accurate way of predicting. This is going to sound crazy, but tie a needle on a string and hold it very still above your belly (this worked for mine and all of my aunts children and also everyone else who I've asked) The needle will start to move, if it goes side to side it's a boy, if it goes in a circle it's a girl! It's fun to try. I had a strong gut feeling from the beginning he was a boy! Me, the needle and the ultrasound all said boy :) You can also use a ring or a necklace. Good luck!
