Q: Having a shower when you're an unwed mom to be?

I want to specify that I am not a teenage, I'm 22 and I live with my boyfriend. We've been together for a while now, and while we're not married, we are having a child together. I'm just wondering if it's odd for an unwed person to have a baby shower? Any opinions? Thanks!

I've been to more baby showers for unwed mothers than for married ones.

I will be 20 this year and I don't really think that age really was a factor in this question. How old you are does not determine your ability to be a mother.

Sorry. I just wanted to get that out there.

I am unmarried and having a shower in two days. My fiance and I also live together. It is definetly fine. Baby showers have nothing to do with your marital status and everything to do with your baby and getting your friends and family involved. Like the old quote says "It takes 2 to make a baby. A mother to birth a baby. And a community to raise a baby."

No worries! Have fun! Enjoy being pregnant and having fun with those who are close to you! (and hey, if you pick up a couple tips or things you had forgotten/thought you wouldn't need, that's a bonus!)

My boyfriend and I just had our baby shower last weekend. It wasn't weird at all. We've been together for four years now and do plan to get married one day but we unexpectedly got pregnant! My whole family has been super supportive.

I see no connection between marriage and baby shower! You deserve one as much as any married mom. Now, if you were trying to have a bridal shower without a pending marriage I'd be a little annoyed!!!

Also I had a mummy shower as my child isn't expected to live, and some people thought that was weird! But to hell with them, I will still be a mother regardless so I celebrated! Do wat you feel is right for u, not everyone else :-)

I've never heard of that being odd at all.. Whether your single, married, not married doesn't effect that at all! GL! :)

I'm 21 and unwed with my second child on the way. I didn't have one with my first (mainly because me and all my friends were still in high school) but this time around my family is throwing me one. Almost every person I know that's had a baby, whether married or not (and most are not) have had one.

Not at all... its a celebration of the baby and becoming a mom I'm not legally married I call him my husband and he calls me his wife this is our third pregnancy and so far this is the one that is going to result in a healthy baby coming home with us. U do not have to be married to do and experience the things that go with pregnancy

I'm married and had a baby shower but I never actually even considered that that wld be an issue, even if I wasn't married I'd have had one, being married has nothing to do with being a mother, becoming a mother under any circumstance is still a major life transition for a woman and shld be celebrated as such!!!! It's like when a girl turns into a lady(when she gets her menstruated cycle, a lady then turns into a woman when she has a baby!)

It's not odd at all! I've been to several showers for women who weren't married and I never thought anything of it.

Just because you aren't married doesn't mean that you don't get to celebrate the impending birth of your little one and be showered with gifts from friends and family. :)
