Q: Fruatrated and viewing things a little unfair

So at my job i work with a girl that is 17 or so weeks. Im 6 wks and it seems like she doesnt have to do certain things because of her pregnancy. We work in an assisted living facility, but she refuses to take out the trash or push someone up to the table. Which leaves me to do these things. I dont mind but i just dont think its fair for her to not do these things. Anyone else feeling like that? I might just be feeling selfish i dont know. Her reason is being pregnant for not doing these things and all my co-workers and my boss know about my pregnancy. Im just really annoyed by it. I dont know if i should discuss this with my boss or what. Any advice would be great thanks

Everyone has a different pregnancy. I am 22 weeks and I have lifting restrictions and rest requirements from my OB and if I don't feel comfortable safely doing some thing (I work at an animal shelter); everyone is pretty supportive. My baby is sitting low and I have a lot of hip/cervical pain. You never know what restrictions a person is on and all you can do is your best and as you progress in your pregnancy, don't push yourself just to prove you are the "tougher" pregnant lady. It's not a competition and you want to be a happy, healthy mama. Here's to a good 9 months to you!

I agree pregnancy shouldn't be a cop out of doing your job. I would however give her the benefit of the doubt though. She may have a health issue that isn't being shared because it is private. My hips and back are so messed up because of my pregnancy right now I have a problem with standing for to long, sitting for too long or even taking the stairs. Hope this helps!

Thanks and kudos for the stairs and cpr which are both hard to do period. In my book pregnancy is not an excuse. There are some things that are insane for a pregnant perdon but in my line of work there isnt any. We dont lift residents or do anything strenous. But im glad to know that there are ppl who agree with me. Thank you all!!!

Hi there

Im going to presume your some form of nurse. Let me tell you, This is my first pregnancy and I worked in an extremley busy emergency department till 20 weeks. I was involved in an arrest call at 15 weeks i had to run up 4 flights of stairs twice and do CPR on a man for 3 full cycles till someone else took over. Not sure if you have ever done CPR but its a massive strain on your body not to mention the running up and down the stairs!!! It didnt kill me, or my baby and thats way more effort that taking out the trash!! I think its fair that some tasks required in a carers or nurses job are to much for a pregnant woman to undertake such as lifting pts etc however taking out the trash and pushing people in wheel chairs is her being LAZY!!! well, thats my opinion. either you stop doing it too or talk to your boss!

I agree that unless taking out the garbage or pushing someone up to a table involves a lot of weight, it should be fine. If you bring it up to your boss, I would leave her out of it. When talking to your boss, I would stick to the health of YOUR pregnancy as a topic. Because to be honest, you don't know what special instructions her Dr gave her (if any and I doubt it). Don't jeopardize your own reputation just cause she's a drama queen...do what you can at work comfortably and screw her. Your baby comes before ANYTHING so don't stress. *Luck and Prayers*

Thank you so much!!! I feel like she is using her pregnancy to not do a thing that involves hard work. It is complete bs this is her 3rd child and my 2nd so its not like its the first where you think everything can hurt the baby. But thanks for answering.

It sounds like she is using the pregnancy not to work. None of those things would harm the baby in any way, so its not a valid excuse in my mind. If you have a good relationship with your boss and feel comfortable bringing it up, feel free.
