Q: Baby Girl Name

So before I knew we were having a girl I really liked the name Bryony.Well my husband said that he wasn't sure about it and pretty much talked me out of it. Now he is saying he likes it, and I am not sure about it. I really want a name that is not crazy popular, as I went to school with about 20 other Amanda's. Do you think Bryony is too unique?

I love unique(prolly cause I'm an Amanda lol) but it's risky because you never know if it's going to work for people. My thing is this: if YOU and DH like it, then use it! But be aware that it may be shortened to Bry so if you don't like that name then I wouldn't use it. I have a name that me and dh like and are planning to keep it secret just so I don't get strange faces or hesitant looks about it and then suddenly want to change it. I figure if I tell people when she gets here that this is her name they will be more likely to hide their expression of disapproval should there be any. And like anything, it may take some getting used to. I find that when I hear a different name that maybe I'm not hot on at first, once I get to know the person and they're super nice or absolutely beautiful I end up loving the name. The same goes for the opposite lol, I used to the love the name Bella and them I watched twilight, hated the character and then hated the name haha!

Beyony is pretty unique and it's easy to pronounce. I'm not sure where it originates from but here in the UK people will more or less be fine with pronunciation. I think it's a lovely name and I've only ever met one bryony and irs far less common than Amanda. Hope you find the perfect name for your baby girl! I know how hard it is to keep to one name without another taking your fancy!! :)

I get not wanting a run of the mill name, as I was one of 4 Katie's in my class all through school. However, remember that it is also frustrating to have to tell everyone how to say and spell your name.

I'm not sure how to pronounce it so could be an issue.
