Q: Elliptical

Is the elliptical safe for pregnant women? I have one at home and lost 40 pounds on it last year. I unfortunately had a miscarriage in july and fell very ill afterwords because it took such a toll on my body so I just stopped working out in july. The weight just kinda stayed off no matter what I have been eating. Now that I am pregant I feel bloated and already gained about 5 pounds and im only 7 weeks. I just cant stop eating because im either nauseous or have the munchies.

Bottom line is I dont want to gain too much weight and I was hoping to be able to use the elliptical to prevent TOO much weight gain. Working out helps me make better food choices too because i work hard to keep my body right and i wont go for that bag of chips. Im not looking to loose but I dont think i should be gaining so much so soon.

So, is it safe to work out on the elliptical or is it too much bouncing around?

My doctor said not to be afraid to work out on anything as long as it's not contact sport (football, hockey, etc). Like the other post says, you want to start out slow but once you've got it going don't be afraid to break a sweat. My Dr also said that all this mumbo jumbo about not letting your heart rate above 120 isn't true. You can work out to your heart's desire as long as you're not extremely fatigued afterword.

I've heard the elliptical is safe and I've seen pregnant women on it at the gym. Since it's been a while since you've been on it, I would start slow so as not to stress out your body too much. Always can ask your doctor too!
