I got my first at 6 weeks because my doc was having trouble determining how far along I was. I was offered one at12 weeks for the downs syndrome test but didn't get it. Without those opportunities I wouldn't have had my first until it is gender time.

Every doctor is different. Ultrasounds are also expensive if your insurance is covering everything 100%. I would talk to your doctor about when he or she believes an ultrasound is necessary based on your current health condition, any testing you plan doing, and any complications that have arisen in previous pregnancies or your current pregnancy. My first ultrasound was at 8 wks. They don't consider me high risk or anything. I did tell them about a previous miscarriage, but they weren't concerned about it at all. The 8 wk scan seemed very routine with them.

I'm a high risk pregnancy and I had to get my ultrasound at 6w4d last week and I have another one (with another doctor for my diabetes this coming up Thursday). They only are making me get these so I can make sure the heartbeat is okay since my sugar was out of whack at the beginning of my pregnancy.

generally we dont get scanned until 15-17 weeks unless u have an issue or concerns...

I didnt have an ultrasound till 13 weeks

generally it 10-12 weeks is when you get your first. I got mine at 6 weeks this pregnancy due to bleeding. but its how that drs are.

That may just be a visit with the nurse to answer question, and then to schedule the doctors visit a few weeks afterwards. That's how a few clinics work here. I was lucky to have kaiser insurance during the start all the way up till my second trimester started but they see you as soon as 8 unless you have problems. But yes it's very normal for those clinics to see you closer to the end of the 1st trimester.

With both of my pregnancies, I had ultrasounds earlier than most because I had miscarriages right before the successful pregnancy and they needed to monitor me more closely. My obgyn doesn't normally see people until they are 12 weeks along unless there is a concern of miscarriage or something else deeming the pregnancy high risk. Just a little longer and you will get your first peek of your little one.

I never had early ultrasounds until i started having repeat miscarriages. With my first baby, i didn't have the first u/s until 14 weeks, and with the second, I think it was 8 weeks and that was only because i was having some weird pain. But after the second baby, i started having early miscarriages. I had 3-4 before finally holding on to this one. But with this baby and the last one that i lost, my dr did u/s at 6, 7, and 8 weeks just to check that something really was there because of the past losses. If i have anymore after this one, it will be the same, alot of monitoring because of my history of m/c and now, my age.
